Jill Karla Schwarz has been working in the strange and very weird world of freelance illustration for over 20 years and is still alive to tell the tale. Her work has appeared in everything from magazines, newspapers, book covers and even comic books. The subject matter has gone the gamut from pretty drawings of flowers and food to serious political illustration for places like The New York Times, The Washington Post, Time Magazine and The Wall Journal.
Besides shopping, Fantasy art is Jill's first love and her fantasy illustrations have been featured as book covers and interior art for book publishers such as Time-Life Books, William Morrow, Franklin Library, St. Martins Press, Doubleday, Berkeley-Penguin and DC Comic book's popular Sandman series. Her artwork is even featured in The History Channel's Dragon's Triangle program. She can frequently be found wandering around the local Borders saying to completely bewildered strangers, "Hey, I drew that!.
Jill has tried to share her knowledge and confusion over the years, teaching and lecturing at schools and university such as The School of Visual Arts, Parsons, FIT and Syracuse University.
One of Jill's latest ventures is into the wild world of Web comic books. She writes and illustrates and even does voice-overs for her semi-animated series call Attention Deficit Girl or ADG. Many of her political drawings have been traveling around the world to various colleges and university's in art show show by the syndicated INX group. She's not sure where the show is now. Rumors have spoken of the art being anywhere from the far reaches of Canada to a trendy Paris gallery and not even one of the drawings she slaved over has sent a postcard. You can also see some of her children's book illustrations done for the Neil Gaiman story Cinnamon at his web site:
